How Do You Refinish Kitchen Cabinets To Make Them Look New And Like A Different Material Or Type Of Wood?

by admin on July 8, 2009

We are buying a condo that has maple door on the kitchen cabinets. I don’t like the dark color, how can you refinish them to look brighte or more like another type of wood. Also how much would this cost?

Sand them down to bare wood and polyurethane. Don’t use any stain. Maple is a light colored wood and is beautiful naturally.

go to homedepot.com, but since I watch a lot of HGTV, I can tell you that it’ll cost fifty bucks per bucket (of paint). Put moldings on the cabinets to make them look like customized cabinets.

you can go to a softer color. try a light to medium oak. you can try white washing them . that might work. it less exspensive and not as much work . when redoing wood work projects , you get into a lot of extra work . first you have to take oof the maple color. then restain them. it may not cost alot or it might. depending on the stain you choose. but get a good stain. cheep ones don’t work good.just remember to be patient . be creative and have fun . good luck in your disition .
